Kochi’s innings began with early setbacks as Arjun K Ramesh, Krishnan, and Mathew George were dismissed cheaply, leaving the score wobbling at 54 for 3 within the powerplay. The situation demanded composure and counterattacking brilliance, and that’s when Meeraj Raj walked in to play the knock of the tournament. What followed was a display of sheer dominance as he dismantled every bowler in sight, hammering 132 off just 49 deliveries. His explosive knock featured 15 towering sixes and four boundaries, turning the game entirely in Kochi’s favor. While the bowlers tried mixing pace and length, Meeraj thrived, launching them over the ropes with effortless power and timing.

Supporting him perfectly was Abijith, who struck 45 from 28 balls, blending controlled aggression with sensible rotation of strike. Their partnership propelled Kochi past the 200-run mark with ease. Later contributions from Aneesh Vidyasagaran (13 not out from 8 balls) and the extras ensured Kochi closed on a monumental 251 for 4. Though Thrissur’s Shahir Mohammed stood out with 3 for 38, his teammates had no answers as boundaries flowed freely in all directions. The Kingsmen left the field knowing they had posted one of the highest totals of the tournament, thanks to Meeraj’s once-in-a-lifetime knock.

The chase by Thrissur Legends began brightly as Prasanth Asokan blazed 39 off 20 balls, injecting early momentum into their innings. But wickets at the other end dented their rhythm, leaving the middle order under pressure against an imposing required rate. Jereesh Jalaludeen stood tall with a counterattacking 55 off 25 balls, decorated with five sixes and four fours, briefly raising hopes for the Legends. He was supported in patches by Giri Nair’s 17 and Nikhil Kishor’s 20, but consistency and partnerships were missing in their pursuit of 252.

Once Abijith broke through with key scalps, including Prasanth, Linesh, and Adheem, Thrissur’s chase crumbled. He was backed by Vinu Nair and Arjun K Ramesh, who chipped in with two wickets apiece to maintain relentless pressure. Even Shahir Mohammed’s unbeaten 29 from 26 balls could not rescue the innings, as the tail folded meekly. Bowled out for 199 in 19.2 overs, the Legends finished 52 runs short. The gulf between the two sides was evident: while Kochi produced batting fireworks and incisive bowling, Thrissur lacked the stability and firepower to match them beyond individual sparks.
