The Tranquil Developers You Selects IPL 2025 (Exhibition) delivered another nail-biter at DCS You Selects Arena 1, where CUBA Kannur Squad edged past Autodeal MCC Mangalore Masters by four wickets with just a ball to spare
Batting first, Mangalore Masters endured a rocky start as Farzuk Yusuf fell lbw to Hasil Ibrahim without troubling the scorers, and Rahul Shetty followed soon after. Vedhas then took matters into his own hands, crafting a determined 64 off 50 balls with four fours and three sixes. His innings was the spine of the Masters’ batting effort, guiding them out of early danger. Though Mohammad Shahir and Suhail Zaki fell cheaply, Vedhas resisted Kannur’s bowlers with admirable grit.
The middle order, however, struggled for fluency, with Syed Aqeeb scratching to 17 from 23 before falling to Asif Abdulla. It was left to Ajay, who struck a quick-fire 20 from 10 balls, and captain Muhammed Fazil, unbeaten on 7, to provide a late surge. Their combined efforts pushed Mangalore to 136/6 from 20 overs, a score that looked slightly under par given the surface and conditions. Bowlers Hasil Ibrahim (2/17) and Bivin Vijayan (1/10) applied the brakes effectively, ensuring Kannur had momentum heading into the chase.
Kannur’s reply got off to a horror start as they slipped to 9/3 inside the first three overs. Sameer Koyanji and Mohammed Nivas were back in the hut for single digits, while Abdul Rahman edged to slip for six. The pressure intensified when captain Vinu Vijayan fell cheaply at 60/5, leaving Kannur in deep strife. Yet amidst the collapse, Prasanth Pattu’s composed 50 from 55 balls held the innings together, even if the strike rate was modest.
The turning point came when Jishnu Sunil Kumar unleashed an explosive 55 off just 29 deliveries, clubbing four fours and three sixes at a strike rate nearing 190. He found the boundary at will, shredding the Masters’ death bowling. With Asif Abdulla providing calm support (3* off 4), Jishnu dragged Kannur over the line in the final over, sealing victory at 137/6 in 19.5 overs. Aamir’s miserly spell of 2/18 briefly threatened to derail the chase, but Kannur’s lower order held firm to snatch a thrilling finish
